One of the biggest festivals of the year is here again!
Ganesh Chaturthi 2021 marks the anniversary of the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Elephant God.

Lord Ganesh is the God of new beginnings and fresh starts. Symbolising wisdom, writing, travel, commerce, and good fortune. He is said to be extremely jovial, and it does not take a lot to please him, especially when deciding how to decorate the home for Ganesh Chaturthi.
It’s time to spruce up your home and welcome the beautiful Ganesh mandaps. Haven’t started your preparations yet? Not to worry, here are some easy ways you can decorate your house for the celebration, easily but still creatively and special.
Step 1: Clean up!
Firstly, it’s time for a deep clean. Start by removing any unnecessary items from your home; dust, sweep, and hoover your rooms, make it look new again! Now is also a good time to move around your furniture and do any jobs you’ve been putting off. Fill in the chipped paint and plaster marks, remove any discoloration. Once it is looking fresh and spotless why not burn some incense to further enhance your home.
Step 2: Add in some greenery.
Secondly, flowers, plants, and greenery are never a bad idea. Create homemade garlands or visit a local garden center to find some new houseplants. Lord Ganesh’s favourite colour is red, so add some red flowers to the entrance of your home. This will not only add colour to a room but also freshen up the air. Similarly, you can mix and match the colours but keep red as the main theme.
Step 3: Illuminate your space.
Make sure your house is as bright and welcoming as possible. Lanterns, candles, and fairy lights can all transform your space. Mirrors and shiny objects can also enrich the sparkle of the lights. Washing the windows and opening the curtains wide will help bring in the natural light.

Step 4: Add a pop of colour.
Colourful saris are a good way of brightening up a room, they can create a beautiful backdrop for your mandap. You could simply spread an embroidered Sari over a table to enhance the room or even select contrasting saris and stitch them together to create stunning curtains. Rangoli is another great way of uplifting and adding colour to a room. You can create a floor or table-top design, make it into a fun family activity!
Step 5: Establish the idol.
Finally, establishing your Ganesh idol onto the mandap is the most important aspect of decorating for Ganesh Chaturthi. Make the mandap with a combination of the above ideas. Make it bright, colourful, and fresh! Make sure to keep the area dust-free, add incense, and of course, sweets!
